Charity Netball Tournament Returns!

OSG Architecture, Jenner Group, and local charity Donations with a Difference recently came together for the second edition of the Charity Netball Tournament.

In the spirit of community, OSG Architecture, Jenner Group, and local charity Donations with a Difference recently came together for the second edition of the Charity Netball Tournament. Four years after the inaugural event organised on behalf of The Brompton Fountain, the 2023 tournament brought together 7 teams from the construction industry and associated professions for an afternoon of spirited competition and heartfelt camaraderie.

Held at the Indoor Tennis Centre at the University of Kent on Thursday, July 27th, the event showcased the competitive spirit within the industry! The funds raised during the tournament were earmarked for two deserving charities: Donations with a Difference, dedicated to alleviating physical impairment, poor mental health, and homelessness in Kent, and The Brompton Fountain, providing support for children's cardiac, respiratory, and intensive care at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

OSG Architecture Accounts Manager, Lorna Gee was the mastermind behind the inaugural tournament in 2019. Lorna has a personal connection to The Brompton Fountain. Her daughter, Georgina, received crucial support from the charity when doctors discovered a tumor in one of her lungs at age of 6. Georgina's inspiring journey, from writing to then-Prime Minister David Cameron when the hospital faced closure to thriving as a Sports Science and Nutrition student at the University of Kent, is a testament to her resilience and the incredible work done by The Brompton Fountain.

Georgina, affectionately dubbed 'Super Lung' by doctors, hasn't let having only one lung hold her back. Not only is she excelling in her studies, but she is also actively involved in netball, both as a player for the University team and a qualified umpire. The passion for netball runs in the family, shared by her sister and mother.

The Charity Netball Tournament was initially envisioned as an annual event, but was disrupted by the onset of the pandemic. However, this year's success, raising approximately £2000 for the two charities, has reignited the enthusiasm for the tournament. We hope that next year's event will be even bigger and better.

The competition itself was intense, with seven teams from various local companies competing in a two-hour tournament. The final showdown between local contractor Jenner Contractors (The Jenner Jumpers) and a mixed team of contractors, accountants, and solicitors (The Hot Shots) was nail-biting! After a draw at full time, Jenner Contractors secured victory with a 'Golden Goal,' clinching the win in a tense finish.

During the presentation ceremony, Donations with a Difference trustee Ella Brocklebank announced a heartwarming gesture. While the funds were initially intended to be split equally between the two charities, Donations with a Difference, a charity supporting other charities, decided to donate their share to The Brompton Fountain. This act of generosity further exemplifies the collaborative and compassionate spirit that defines the Charity Netball Tournament.
