EDUCATION FOCUS – Coming Soon: New Classroom Block for Invicta Grammar

With the addition of new housing in the Maidstone area, the pressure on school intake is ever-increasing.

OSG have recently submitted a planning application on behalf of our client, Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT) to provide a new 3-storey classroom block for Invicta Grammar School in Maidstone.

Invicta Grammar School is a popular and outstanding 11-18 selective girls’ school which welcomes boys into the Sixth Form. With over 1600 students on roll, including nearly 400 in the Sixth Form, the school is widely recognized as a beacon of excellence, innovation and collaboration.

The popularity of Invicta Grammar School is such that it is always over-subscribed for places each September. With the addition of new housing in the Maidstone area, the pressure on school intake is ever-increasing.

Kent County Council are funding the new classroom block so that an extra year group can be admitted. The proposed new block will provide 18 much-needed new classrooms, allowing for future expansion and to enable existing humanity classrooms elsewhere on the site to be re-purposed into larger science labs and food-tech rooms.

The exterior design of the proposed new teaching block is to be mainly yellow stock brickwork, with contrasting red brickwork to mark the main entrance and an element of grey cladding to break the uniformity of the brickwork and glazed staircores, which have proved successful on adjacent buildings.

The design of the new teaching block is for a modern, learning-conducive environment, worthy of the school’s academic success and fit for purpose in the 21st century.

The project is currently awaiting planning consent, but once approved, it is hoped work will commence on site over the summer vacation.
