Valley Park School, situated in Maidstone, has academy status and is part of the Valley Invicta Academy Trust.
Existing, dilapidated building stock needed to be replaced and external sports facilities needed to be improved. The site for the new block was on redundant tennis courts adjacent to the existing gymnasium. The final scheme was to provide 18 classrooms, a library and sixth form common room.
Inspiration for the style and palette of materials came from existing architecture on the campus. We used facing block work externally with aluminium windows and curtain walling. The roof is predominantly flat with a projecting parapet gutter and a raised central mono-pitch section to create a double-height space within the library.
