THE SPEARPOINT PAVILION, ASHFORD
|Client:||St Abbot/Ashford Borough Council|
|Construction:||Design & Build|
|Team||Tim Coombes, Bradley Hadaway|
The Spearpoint Pavilion was designed by Ashford Borough Council, who obtained full planning permission in 2014 and applied for part funding from The Football Foundation. The proposal included the demolition of the existing dilapidated changing facility situated on the Kennington playing fields. This was to be replaced by a community building with FA compliant changing facilities.
OSG Architecture were asked to prepare the working drawings package on behalf of ST Abbott, who were awarded the contract by Ashford Borough Council.
OSG Architecture worked closely with ST Abbott to ensure that the design met the requirements of The Football Foundation and the FA. The main challenges related to the security of the building and its dual role: it had to function both as a community hall and as a secure changing facility for outdoor sporting activities. Extensive discussions with building control resulted in a solution that included direct link doors between the two spaces.
Both the design and site teams were fully committed and focused on delivering this project on time and within budget. The aim was to provide a fresh new community facility that could be enjoyed by local sports clubs and the general public for years to come. We believe that the team achieved that goal!
