HARVEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL SPORTS HALL, FOLKESTONE
|Client:||Harvey Grammar School|
|Construction:||Design & Build|
The new two-storey extension to the existing sports hall at the Harvey Grammar School necessitated the partial demolition of the existing single-storey changing rooms adjoining the sports hall, which were run down.
The new accommodation consisted of a sports gym to accompany the existing sports hall (which was retained), associated changing rooms and offices, two new general teaching rooms, and a multi-use studio.
OSG were commissioned by the school to prepare a feasibility study and, later, a planning application, which successfully gained planning permission in 2015. OSG were nominated to continue with the working drawings package on behalf of ST Abbott, which had successfully won the project through a two-stage tender process.
Due to the existing topography of the site, the external areas around the extension required extensive works. We also created a series of steps that also acted as informal seating for students. This overcame the need for high retaining walls and helped reduce the impact of the development on its surroundings.
The contractor was committed to completing the work by September 2017, in time for the new term. Working together, OSG and the design team helped ST Abbott deliver this exciting project by the deadline. The school was delighted with the new facility and the effort made by everyone involved.
